there's a new type of tonometer out...the "icare" tonometer. its a handheld device which measures intraocular pressure WITHOUT an air-puff (like non-contact tonometry) and WITHOUT eyedrops (like Goldmann applanation tonometry). it uses a "rebound" probe that is accurate, can't be felt by the patient, and can even be used with soft contacts ON! pretty amazing idea, one that could feasibly change the profession of optometry.
