Lotemax Ophthalmic Ointment

ALL RIGHT! I guarantee I'll be Rx'ing this. Finally a new ocular steroid ointment on the market, so I can stop using dexamathasone & hydrocortisone, both of which can & do raise intraocular pressure. It's funny the little things I get excited over, but this will change the way I practice, I promise:

LOTEMAX OPHTHALMIC OINTMENT

Now if B+L would just please, please, pretty please combine a fluoroquinolone with Lotemax so I can have a decent combo drug that doesn't contain 40-year old tobramycin! Is anyone at B+L listening? Please?

  1. as an aside...it always makes me laugh when I read the clinical data on a drug & the results of their study conclude that the drug is "more effective than the vehicle". that's essentially saying "it works better than nothing", which is funny to me.

  2. Hi doc,
This is not at all related to the above topic. Since I don't have any other way to communicate, I post this here.(Sorry! :)) I found this on facebook, ....seems like a well wisher guy must have posted this. I would like to know what you think about the below claim? Is there any true?..

    PLEASE READ CAREFULLY................
A 21 year old guy had worn a pair of contact lenses during a barbecue party.(An event or meal at which food is cooked outdoors over an open grill or fire)
While barbecuing he stared at the fire charcoals continuously for 2-3 minutes.
After a few minutes, he started to scream for help and moved rapidly, jumping up and down.
No one in the party knew why he was doing this?

Then he admitted into the Hospital, the doctor said he'll be blind permanently because of the contact lenses that he had worn.
Contact lenses are made by plastics, and the heat from the charcoal melted
    his contact lenses.

DO NOT WEAR CONTACT LENSES WHERE OVERHEATING AND FLAMES ARE CONCERNED.... OR
    WHILE COOKING...!

Friends if u feel the information is important, Please pass this message to
All your near & dear ones

  4. Now, now, don't berate Tobramycin just because it's over forty, young man. It's a very effective agent regardless of its geriatric nature! There are some of us who are starting to get a little sensitive to.....age discrimination! Give it a few years, and you'll understand what I mean!

  6. Is Lotemax ever used to treat MGD? Both my upper and lower eyelids have been killing me and I am just looking for something to help. Lid scrubs, compresses, and fish oil provide minimal relief so far. I was going to see a doctor about Azasite (thanks to your post) but noticed I have a trial bottle of lotemax from when my eyes were itching from punctal plugs a few months ago.

Would using the Lotemax be a safe idea?

  7. lotemax is not routinely used to treat MGD. but lotemax does treat red, painful eye and eyelid problems so if they're "killing" you, then it probably won't hurt to try it. it won't solve the MGD at all, but it may help with the pain, redness
